Finns expected to appear on the Swedish pulpwood market.

(06/10/2009)
Swedish forest owners expert Finnish purchasers to turn their attention to the Swedish pulpwood market. The reason is the rapid and strong increase of wood prices in the Baltic countries and in Russia.

Mr Magnus Juntikka, forestry manager of Skogssällskapet, Swedish property management company, says that for a long time wood exports to Finland were at almost zero level. However, lately Finnish purchasers have become more active so that pulpwood prices are on the increase in both the Baltic countries and in Russia.

In an interview for the magazine Skogsland Mr Juntikka says that in only three months the prices of Baltic pulpwood have increased by 60 % and even more. Once again Swedish forest owners receive the lowest prices in Europe. It can be expected that in the near future Finnish vessels will arrive to the Swedish coast in search of cheap pulpwood.

The negative side of low prices is increased demand. Mr Juntikka encourages Swedish forest owners to sell now as long as there are buyers. When prices will level out and when stocks of wood are filling up demand will decrease.
