Forestry, Agriculture and Reindeer Management in Sweden
Reindeer husbandry is intimately linked to Lapland culture and has very long traditions. There are about 900 reindeer husbandry enterprises in Sweden and their aggregate turnover is about 150 million SEK (ca 16 million €). The number of reindeer in Sweden is about 230 000.

Forest based tourism
More than 80 per cent of the production forest in Norway is personally owned and family forestry is the dominating type of forest ownership with an average size of 60 hectares. The whole forest area in Norway is certified under the PEFC scheme. 80 per cent of the annual cut is harvested and sold through the forest owners co-operatives in the Norwegian forest owners’ federation.

Certification has improved the standard of forest management
A comparative study conducted by Savcor Indufor Oy shows that forest certification has had a marked impact on forestry in the Nordic countries. Hanna Nikinmaa of Savcor Indufor studied the FSC and PEFC-based forest certification schemes and standards implemented in Finland, Sweden and Norway and how effective these have been in promoting sustainable forestry.
